Surry Hills House – Lift Upgrade & Rooftop Extension

Through careful planning and expert delivery, Decocorp extended an existing lift system, providing rooftop access to panoramic city views, enhancing the building’s functionality and value.

Decocorp was engaged to remove and replace the existing lift system while extending the shaft to connect all levels through to the rooftop. Previously, lift access terminated at Level 8. The new extension now provides tenants with direct and convenient access to a reimagined rooftop space showcasing panoramic views of the Sydney skyline.

The works demanded meticulous staging and coordination to maintain one operational lift throughout construction. This approach ensured uninterrupted building functionality for tenants and visitors while complex structural modifications were underway. Key elements included the extension of the lift shaft, reinforcement of the existing structure, and precision demolition to modify the rooftop slab.

Structural and service upgrades were extensive. Decocorp reconfigured lift equipment layouts, rerouted mechanical and electrical systems, and integrated new fire and security infrastructure to meet contemporary compliance standards. The former rooftop motor room was transformed into a premium lift lobby featuring refined finishes, architectural lighting, and a seamless connection to the outdoor terrace.

The result is a modernised vertical transport system that enhances building performance, safety, and accessibility while adding tangible value to the asset. The rooftop connection has redefined the building’s amenity offering, creating a functional, high-impact space suited to both tenant leisure and corporate use.
